Preparation is the most important part of any paint job and at Hemsworth & Deamer we take pride in the details so that the finished product is of the highest standard. We offer services in Oil based, Acrylic (water) based paints and two pack.
- Wait for dry weather (if possible) which is especially important for external oil based and two pack finishes.
- Do a thorough visual inspection and preparation. Sand old woodwork that is to be re-painted, wash down and rinse the walls, fix cracks, apply caulking, vacuum the area and apply high-quality paint tape. This is usually the longest part of any paint job and the most important, taking shortcuts here means the job will be substandard.
- Use high-quality brushes, roller covers and painter's tape. Good brushes and roller covers give excellent coverage so that you don't waste time and paint having to reapply. High-end painter's tape is the real deal when it comes to sealing out drips and blurs.
- Use the nap for the rollers.
- Protect anything you don't want painted.
- Remove light switch and power socket covers.
- Use primer, especially if you are covering dark walls with a new lighter cover. Most people don't realise that painting directly over a dark wall is a big mistake. Apply two coats of all-in-one prep / blocker first and at least one coat of the finishing paint, possibly two if it is a darker paint that needs covering.
- Work out how much paint you need - paint is surprisingly expensive so we don’t under buy as multiple smaller cans mean the overall cost can go up considerably.
